Watching and Waiting for the NFL Draft

The NFL Draft is finally here!  After a long and hard process it is time to watch and wait.  This process has challenged me in every way mentally and physically.  Starting the day after the bowl game selecting an agent and a training facility.  Then moving to Dallas to train and prepare.  Two weeks later I went to Florida for a week for the shrine game and played my last amateur football game.  I then went through three testing events at the Regional Combine in Houston, Texas Tech pro day, and the Super Regional Combine in Dallas.  Between then I have had four private workouts and one team visit going up to Detroit.  Lastly I have been on the phone it seems non stop interviewing and giving teams information to complete my draft profile.  All of this process has been crazy and stressful, but it has also been exciting and I am truly blessed and thankful to be living my dream.  I would like to send a special thanks to my God, agent Jerry Marlatt, training team at Geared4Speed with Melvin and Jerry Bullitt, wife, family, friends, teammates, and all the Texas Tech and Stephenville staffs that have supported and helped me get where I am today.  I have done everything I can to put myself in a position to get drafted, now it is time to put it in God's hands and have faith.  Whatever happens, I know this is just the first step and I will continue to work towards my goal of playing in the NFL.

Crunch Time in the Super Regional Combine

What has been a hectic week to say the least, I will now backtrack and take a look back at the Super Regional Combine.  The Super Regional Combine is an event that wasn't on my radar when I began this process.  But as I soon realized that I wasn't invited to the Combine in Indy, I had to figure out a way to get in front of scouts and show them what I had.  The Regional Combine system was the way to do that.  I first went to the Houston regional in which I qualified for the Super Regional at Dallas Cowboy's Stadium with my numbers and performance.  As soon as we found out I had qualified, we looked at the date... April 7th!  Ashley and I's wedding had been planned for April 6th for a year now and it just had to be on the day after.  The wedding was beautiful and I am now happily married!

But as I woke up it was now crunch time as we packed up and had to be at the Sheraton hotel checked in for the Super Regional Combine at noon. I was fatigued from my wedding and having already put up good numbers at both the regional combine and pro day, I had a tough decision to make.  Skip out on certain drills/tests, do everything, or not go at all?  If I put up a bad number today because of my fatigue, I would ruin all the work I had done from the regional and pro day.  Well I didn't actually make the decision until the day of when the competitive side of me took over and I decided to go for it all.  We started out with the 40 and the continued on to the position drills, which was a different order than normal.  I performed great in both putting up a 4.35/4.41 as reported by an NFL scout and made crisp cuts in my drills.  But myself and the rest of the players were worn out after the drills they put us through, which is why it is usually last.  We continued on to the rest of the testing, where I performed well but could have done better.  I was happy with the results, but knew I could have done better as my body was far from rested.  Having been through combine style testing now in the regional combine, pro day, and super regional combine hopefully I have proven my work ethic and consistency as it was no easy task!  It was a great experience and I hope to have shown a little of what I will bring to the table for a NFL team.
